Success Stories

The Singing Angels

David is honored to serve on the Arts Advisory Board of the Singing Angels. We are all proud of what this singing group brings to Cleveland.

"Several years ago, I noticed a distinct improvement in the vocal technique of a couple of our Singing Angels during solo auditions. When I asked them if they were taking voice lessons, they said they were, and that their teacher was David Fuller.

I now enthusiastically recommend David as a voice instructor for our kids when parents inquire. He has a knack for expressing solid classical techniques in a style able to be digested and utilized by teenagers interested in Broadway and pop repertoire."

Madi Lee
With Start At Fairmount, Madi Lee Sets Sights on Madison Square Garden

It started without fanfare: An 11-year-old posted a YouTube video for relatives and became an overnight sensation.

But, over the past few years, Madi Lee, 14, of Cleveland, has frozen singing enthusiasts in their tracks with her vocal talent. Her most popular YouTube video, a cover of Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go,” logged 77 million views.

“Ever since she was little, she has loved singing,” said her mother, Vanessa. “When she posted the video
(a cover of “Someday” from the “Wedding Singer”) our family had no idea she would become popular. It was just for family and friends out of town.”

Since then, her YouTube channel has grown to include 79 videos, including covers of pop stars such as Taylor Swift and One Direction. Her first original single, “You Take Me Up,” recently debuted and is available on iTunes.

As a former Fairmount student, she credits music instructor David Fuller for helping improve her technique.

“He gave me a lot of confidence in singing,” Madi said, adding she learned under his tutelage for roughly a year-and-a-half. “Fairmount is a great, great place to be.”
On average, she practices 15 hours a week while balancing schoolwork and free time. In addition to singing, she also dances and plays guitar.

Her ultimate goal? To sell out Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“After all, they share the same name,” Vanessa said. “We’re proud of her.”

Note that Madi Lee's " Let it Go " solo now has more than 66 million views!

Adriana Belts Praises for Fairmount

Adriana HoltsShe’s a young girl with an old, wise sense of wisdom when it comes to performing arts.

For Adriana, 14, belting multi-octave songs with the help of Fairmount Fine Arts Center music director David Fuller comes to her as easily as jumping rope or shopping at the mall.

Adriana won the National Singing Star 2013 Cleveland Audition with her rendition of “The Little Mermaid” hit, “Part of Your World.” She specializes in musical theater, tap-dancing, playing piano and singing. Adriana cites Wizard of Oz star Judy Garland, Glee actress Lea Michelle and torch singer and actress Barbra Streisand as her influences.

“She’s iconic,” Adriana said of Streisand. “She inspired me to work to where I am now.”

Why does Adriana love Fairmount? It challenges her and encourages her at the same time.

“Fairmount motivates me to keep working hard,” Adriana said. “It gives you the opportunity to grow as a performer, yet lets you know you have a lot to learn. The second you let your ego get to you, you quit growing.”

The Chagrin Falls Middle School student said she started working with Fuller in 2010 and began her career at Fairmount in 2008. Adriana’s mother, Dawn, said she was proud of her daughter and loved Fairmount’s rural setting.

“I’m always greeted by friendly faces and I trust David,” Dawn said of Fairmount, adding she loves its rustic setting. “I’m proud of Adriana and what she’s done.”

Mayim Hamblen

Mayim Hamblen began her voice career singing to songs she wrote on the piano at the age of five. She then went on to perform in musicals at the Geauga Lyric Theater in Chardon Ohio at the age of seven, starting a love for musical and operatic singing. Mayim participated in the show choir, “Free Harmony” at the Chardon High School and sang in the women’s choir as well as the elite Chamber Choir.

Mayim continued to sing throughout high school, eventually recording her first song, “Fairytale” when she was fourteen. After receiving such roles as “Cosette in Les Miserables”, “Ti Moune in Once On This Island”, “Chava in Fiddler on the Roof”, and “Lily in Secret Garden”, Mayim realized she wanted to better hone her vocal technique. She believes that although only working with David for a little over a year, his lessons and instruction where able to help her broaden her vocal range and style and help strengthen her three octave range as a Lyrical Soprano. She dedicates her ability to sing opera to his vocal practices.

Mayim is currently studying Wildlife at The Ohio State University and will be graduating next year as a fifth-year senior. She continues to sing and play piano and guitar, doing many covers on YouTube as well as recording original songs. Her artist name is “Maytide” and she hopes to be collaborating with a few other musicians in the near future as to work on developing a more complete band. As for now, you can find her Music Directing the Elementary Musical for her third year, in the Summer Workshops at the Geauga Theater in Chardon.
